Noelle and I saw Mathew West and Barlow Girl in concert Friday night. 2500+ screaming 14year olds it seemed to me. But both artists were very good, especially Barlow Girl. Two thoughts:

1. “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” – One of the Barlow girls. 2. In my brief life of pseudo celebrity traveling in
Europe, I realized something made apparent Friday night. The average youth pastor has a greater opportunity to change lives than an awesome rock star like Mathew West or Barlow Girl. While most of us desire the life of a rock star – money, fame, and power – the reality is most of their lives are spent on busses, in airports, doing sound checks, writing/recording new material. There is very little time or opportunity for deep relationships.

And while ALL of us can remember a teacher that has changed our lives forever, none of us remember the number one single in the country this week 5 or 10 years ago. If your worldview says relationships are among the most important things in all of life, then you realize the truth in “the first shall be last, and the last shall be first.” But it would still be pretty sweet to rock it out.
